Expertise made easy.

fncli gives you a simple, secure interface to your systems

There are a lot of complex tools and components used in conjunction with your IBM FileNet systems. fncli is not one of them.

It’s a simple command line interface that allows you to logon and access the information you’d normally find in ACCE. It provides a framework for storing and managing queries and scripts so that you can easily perform monitoring, maintenance or deployment tasks reliably and repeatedly. It gives you commands that help you identify issues and provides an extensible structure that you, your IT teams, business partners and IBM can provide re-usable queries and scripts to simplify day to day management of your systems, and integrate it simply with other DevOps processes.

Secure access

The logon command configures which systems you’re working with and authenticates you with them. Once you’ve established a login context you can use all the other commands available in fncli. You can have multiple active contexts to different systems and swap or execute single commands in any context. Each command has specific securable roles so you can safely distribute actions to your teams whilst ensuring only appropriate people can perform those actions.

Overviews and Detail

The summary command gives you an overview of the domain and the structures within it. You can drill down asking for more detail, or focus on a specific object.

Compare and manage information

You can retrieve information and compare it with information you’ve retrieved earlier, from the same system or a different source.

You can quickly determine if there’s a difference in a development system and a test system, showing the differences or confirming the existence of information to isolate deployment or operational changes. Integrating a check of what’s deployed into your DevOps pipeline is simple, and doing adhoc checks in case of an issue is too.

Extensible Framework

fncli is built on top of the document management capabilities of IBM FileNet. Queries and Scripts are documents stored within the system, secured and classified to support ease of use, and controlled access. Script libraries are also stored in the system and accessed transparently when needed to support actions.

You can authorise individual queries or scripts for particular usage and the system will enforce who can use them for specific purposes. There are commands for interrogating, securing and changing the queries and scripts that you use.

Graphical information

Many of the structures of a solution need to be seen graphically to be understood.

fncli generates graphical and hierarchical views when sensible and when you ask for them.

Searchable, Orderable and Filterable

Queries can be extended on the fly, allowing you to create a core set of features and allowing users to add to them if they’re allowed. Output from commands is orderable and filterable so finding that piece of information is much easier than attempting to locate it in a user interface..

Solutions, Environments, Content and Process

fncli provides commands for Records Management and Case Management systems as well. Specific commands to assist with the management of solutions built on the IER and ICM frameworks are available, including those for interrogating and managing the IBM FileNet process engine.

Built on IBM FileNet Content Manager

fncli is, at its core, a content management solution. It builds on the features of IBM FileNet Content Manager to help you manage it.. It doesn’t require additional hardware, systems or expertise. It uses terms and techniques your staff are already familiar with, but in a clear and concise way.
